Since 2021, the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank have partnered to hold an annual food drive with all of its and Pittsburgh City League (PIAA District VIII) schools. The fourth annual Food & Fund Drive began on Monday, August 19, 2024 and ended on Friday, December 6, 2024, with 82,389 meals raised for Western Pennsylvania communities.
Schools are divided into six divisions by enrollment, and the schools tabulating the most "meals" (total between money donated and food collected) in each of those divisions are recognized at the WPIAL Basketball Championships as Community Champions. For financial donations, three meals can be provided for every $1.00 donated. For physical food donations, one physical food item equals one meal. In the first two years of the Food & Fund Drive, WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League schools have raised a total of 329,553 meals for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
