The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) has announced the school and student winners of the third annual Financial Trivia Challenge powered by First National Bank, the largest subsidiary of F.N.B. Corporation (NYSE: FNB).
This year’s competition continued to see high engagement from across the region, with the top three high schools and top 10 students qualifying for monetary rewards. The challenge ran from October 23 to December 12.
Laurel Highlands High School claimed the top spot as the highest participating school, receiving a grant of $2,250. South Park High School followed in second place with a $1,000 grant, continuing their streak as a top-three finisher in every year of the challenge. Serra Catholic High School secured the third-place honor and a $500 grant.
Additionally, Freeport High School earned a special shoutout and a $250 reward for winning "Most Participation" during the first week of the challenge.
In the individual standings, Sydney Sekely of South Park High School earned the top prize of $600 for the highest score among all participating students. Alex Vernier from Seneca Valley finished in second place, receiving $400, and Annabelle Aquino of Penn Trafford earned $300 for her third-place finish.
“Financial education is foundational to FNB’s work throughout our communities, and we know it is especially influential among younger generations,” said representatives of FNB’s Pittsburgh Region. “The more that students understand these concepts now, the better equipped they are to make financial decisions and set goals that will positively impact them in the future.”
