WPIAL, First National Bank Announce Fourth Annual Financial Trivia Challenge

First National Bank will sponsor the fourth annual WPIAL Financial Trivia Challenge, which runs from October 29 to December 20

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) and First National Bank, the largest subsidiary of F.N.B. Corporation (NYSE: FNB), announced the return of the Financial Trivia Challenge, with the Fourth year of the competition set to begin this week.

The Financial Trivia Challenge presented by First National Bank was introduced in 2023 as a competition for Western Pennsylvania students to learn important financial skills, with cash rewards distributed to the highest scores and the schools with the most student participation. In its first year, the Financial Trivia Challenge saw over 100 schools and 1,400 students participate, with $6,000 in monetary rewards distributed to students and member schools. Laurel Highlands was the top participating school and received a grant of $2,250, while South Park student Sydney Sekely won the $600 monetary prize for the highest score among participating students.

"We're proud to continue our partnership with First National Bank to help students build the financial knowledge and confidence they need to succeed, said Vince Sortino, WPIAL Executive Director. "Financial literacy is an essential life skill, and the Financial Trivia Challenge provides a way for students to strengthen their understanding of important financial concepts while recognizing their achievements. We look forward to another successful year and to reaching even more students and schools across Western Pennsylvania."

Participants will have 90 seconds to answer as many financial-related trivia questions as possible. They can improve upon their score by participating up to 30 times while comparing their results with others across the WPIAL on the leaderboard. To encourage participation, FNB will give a $250 reward to the three WPIAL member schools with the most students participating during the first week of the Financial Trivia Challenge. The top 10 students with the highest scores will take home cash rewards of up to $600, and the top three member schools with the highest overall participation, based on total student enrollment, will receive a reward of up to $2,000 from First National Bank.

"Our local communities and the young people who call them home matter deeply to FNB," said Ron Donatelli, President of First National Bank's Pittsburgh and Northwest Regions. "By supporting students' educational goals and developing their financial understanding, we can encourage responsible money management behaviors and future economic success. Our great partnership with the WPIAL is an excellent way to accomplish that in the Pittsburgh area."
