WPIAL Sets 2025 Girls’ Track & Field Team Championships Brackets

North Allegheny (Class 3A) and Quaker Valley (Class 2A) both seek their fourth consecutive WPIAL titles

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) revealed its brackets for the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls’ Track & Field Team Championships on Thursday, with 34 teams qualifying by finishing inside the top two of their respective sections following the regular season.
 
Teams competed in eight different sections in both Class 2A and Class 3A, and faced each of their section opponents once.
 
The Class 3A section champions were Norwin (6-0, 6-0) in Section I, Laurel Highlands (8-0, 6-0) in Section II, North Allegheny (6-0, 6-0) in Section III, Kiski Area (7-0, 6-0) in Section IV, Franklin Regional (6-0, 6-0) in Section V, Mt. Lebanon (6-0, 6-0) in Section VI, South Fayette (6-0, 6-0) in Section VII, and Blackhawk (6-0, 6-0) in Section VIII.
 
In Class 2A, the section champions were Laurel (7-0, 7-0) in Section I, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (7-0, 7-0) in Section II, Quaker Valley (6-0, 6-0) in Section III, North Catholic (8-0, 7-0) in Section IV, Carlynton (8-1, 8-0) in Section V, California (6-1, 6-1) in Section VI, Winchester Thurston (8-0, 8-0) in Section VII, and Greensburg Central Catholic (7-0, 7-0) in Section VII.
 
Last season, North Allegheny captured the Class 3A champion for the third consecutive year and 14th time in school history with dual meet wins over Norwin (78-72), Mt. Lebanon (81-69), and North Catholic (113-31). Quaker Valley won its third straight title in Class 2A and 10th overall with dual meet victories over Fort Cherry (79-71), Knoch (76-74), and Shenango (102-48).
 
The WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls’ Track & Field Championships begin on Tuesday, April 29 with semifinal meets in both classifications. The top team in each semifinal will advance to the championship meet, which are scheduled to be contested on Tuesday, May 6 at West Mifflin High School for Class 3A and Peters Township Middle School for Class 2A.

  • 14: The number of WPIAL girls’ track & field team championships won by both Butler and North Allegheny, a league record. The Golden Tornado were victorious in 1988, 1990, 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021, while the Tigers won in 1986, 1987, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
