Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) posted its psych sheets for the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Boys’ Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday afternoon. The diving championships will be held on Feb. 21-22 at North Allegheny High School, and the swimming championships will be held on Feb. 27-28 at Joseph C. Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
Class 3A has 296 qualifiers across the 13 events, while Class 2A has 277. There are five reigning event champions in Class 3A seeking to retain their titles: Central Catholic seniors McClellan Clark (500 freestyle) and Luke Hartman (200 freestyle), Fox Chapel senior Owen Howell (200 individual medley), North Allegheny senior Grant Regule (50 freestyle), and Upper St. Clair junior Nazar Zoukovski (100 freestyle). In Class 2A, there are four reigning event champions competing in 2025: Indiana senior Preston Kessler (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle), Mt. Pleasant senior David Mutter (100 butterfly), and Shady Side Academy senior Soren Cooper (500 freestyle). The Class 3A field also features Luke Lamb, who won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke in Class 2A competing for North Catholic.
Section champions were determined in both classifications following the regular season. In Class 3A, Franklin Regional (8-2, 7-0) won Section I, North Allegheny (10-0, 6-0) took Section II, Fox Chapel (12-1, 7-0) captured Section III, and Bethel Park (9-4, 5-1), Mt. Lebanon (8-3, 5-1), and Upper St. Clair (7-3, 5-1) shared Section IV. Class 2A saw Chartiers Valley (4-5, 4-0) top Section I, Riverside (8-3, 6-1) emerge from Section II, Shady Side Academy (10-0, 6-0) win Section III, Indiana (11-0, 5-0) reign in Section IV, Uniontown (8-1, 5-0) take Section V, and Thomas Jefferson (11-2, 5-0) earn the Section VI crown.
North Allegheny has won the last two Class 3A team championships and will look for its 19th this year. In Class 2A, Indiana is the reigning champion after capturing its sixth in 2024.
Each event champion and additional finishers will qualify for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Boys’ Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held March 12-15 at Kinney Natatorium on the campus of Bucknell University.
