Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) revealed its psych sheets for the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Boys’ Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday afternoon. The diving championships will be held on Feb. 23-24 at North Allegheny High School, and the swimming championships will be held on Feb. 29-March 1 at Joseph C. Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
Class 3A has 282 qualifiers across the 13 events, while Class 2A has 306. In Class 3A, six individual events have their reigning champion returning, and Class 2A has four.
Section champions were determined in both classifications following the regular season. In Class 3A, Franklin Regional (12-0-0, 5-0-0) took Section I, North Allegheny (10-0-0, 6-0-0) captured Section II, Fox Chapel (8-5-0, 6-0-0) won Section III, and Upper St. Clair (9-1-0, 6-0-0) claimed Section IV. Class 2A saw Carlynton (7-2-0, 5-0-0) emerge from Section I, Blackhawk (10-1-0, 7-0-0) top Section II, Northgate (11-0-0, 7-0-0) take Section III, Indiana (13-0-0, 7-0-0) reign in Section IV, Elizabeth Forward (13-1-0, 6-0-0) win Section V, and Thomas Jefferson (8-4-0, 6-0-0) collect Section VI.
North Allegheny returns as the Class 3A team champion, having captured its 16th overall last year. Kiski Area is the reigning Class 2A team champion, winning its first title in 2023.
Each event champion and additional finishers will move onto the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Boys’ Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held on March 13-16 at Kinney Natatorium on the campus of Bucknell University.
