Wexford, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) hosted its first championships of the 2025-26 academic year on Wednesday and Thursday at the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls’ Tennis Singles Championships. It was a star-studded event in both classifications, as Shady Side Academy’s Meriwether McCargo and Belle Vernon’s Gabrielle Dusi each captured their third consecutive WPIAL title.
McCargo becomes the first student-athlete from Shady Side Academy to win three straight singles titles. With her win, Shady Side Academy moves into sole possession of second place all-time in WPIAL girls’ tennis singles championships, breaking a previous tie with Greater Latrobe and Upper St. Clair.
Dusi continues to make history at Belle Vernon, as her three titles remain the only WPIAL tennis championships—boys or girls—in school history.
The top three finishers in both Class 2A and Class 3A have qualified for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Girls’ Tennis Singles Championships.
