Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) revealed its brackets for the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls’ Lacrosse Championships on Thursday, with 24 teams qualifying across the two classifications.
Teams competed in two different sections in both Class 2A and Class 3A, and faced each of their section opponents once. The top six teams in each Class 2A and Class 3A section earned qualification into the WPIAL playoffs.
The Class 3A section champions were Upper St. Clair (16-1-0, 10-0-0) in Section I and Pine-Richland (15-2-0, 8-0-0) in Section II, while the Class 2A section champions were Seton LaSalle (14-1-0, 10-0-0) in Section I and Mars (15-1-0, 10-0-0) in Section II.
Last season, Mt. Lebanon won the Class 3A title with a 16-11 victory against Pine-Richland, while Mars defended the Class 2A crown with a 14-6 win over Chartiers Valley.
The WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls’ Lacrosse Championships begin on Monday, May 12 with first round games in Class 2A. Championship games will be held at Upper St. Clair High School on May 21-22. The top three teams in both classifications will qualify for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Girls’ Lacrosse Championships, which begin with first round games on Tuesday, June 3 and conclude on Saturday, June 14 with the championship games at Panzer Stadium on the campus of Penn State University.

- 6: The number of WPIAL girls’ lacrosse championships won by Mt. Lebanon, which is a league record. The Blue Devils won in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2014, 2016, and 2024.
- 5: The number of instances in which the WPIAL girls’ lacrosse champion also won gold in boys’ lacrosse. Mt. Lebanon and Mars both achieved this last season, sweeping both sport’s crowns. The Fightin’ Planets also accomplished this in 2021 and 2023, while Shady Side Academy won boys’ and girls’ titles in 2022.
- 3: The longest streak of consecutive WPIAL girls’ lacrosse championships, accomplished by Mt. Lebanon and Peters Township. The Blue Devils won the league’s first three championship games in 2004, 2005, and 2006, while the Indians won the next three in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
- 3: The number of years it has been since a first-time WPIAL girls’ lacrosse champion was crowned. Chartiers Valley was the last, doing so at Class 2A in 2022 with a 17-6 win over Mars.
