Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) announced its brackets in Class 2A and Class 3A for the 2024 WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls’ Lacrosse Championships on Thursday morning, with the championship games set for May 22-23 at Joe Walton Stadium on the campus of Robert Morris University.
A total of 25 teams between the two classifications qualified for the WPIAL Girls’ Lacrosse Championships, and the tournaments begin with Class 3A first-round games on Monday, May 13. Teams punched their tickets to the postseason by finishing inside the top six of their respective sections in both classifications following the regular season.
In Class 3A, Mt. Lebanon (15-0-0, 8-0-0) won the Section I title and Pine-Richland (14-1-1, 9-0-0) took the Section II crown.
Class 2A saw Indiana (13-2-0, 11-0-0) and Mars (14-2-1, 11-0-0) emerge as Section I and Section II champions, respectively.
The top two teams in Class 3A and top three teams in Class 2A will advance to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Girls’ Lacrosse Championships, which begin with first round games on Tuesday, June 4 and conclude with championship games on Saturday, June 15 at Panzer Stadium on the campus of Penn State University.
Pine-Richland is the reigning Class 3A champion after topping Mt. Lebanon last season, 13-12. Mars defeated Blackhawk in overtime, 10-9, last year to claim the Class 2A title.
