Peters Township, Beaver, Avonworth, Eden Christian Academy Win 2025 WPIAL Girls’ Volleyball Titles

Peters Township, Avonworth, and Eden Christian Academy each won their first titles; Beaver wins second in three years

McMurray, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) hosted its WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls’ Volleyball Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1 at AHN Arena on the campus of Peters Township High School.

Peters Township captured its first volleyball championship in program history at the 2025 WPIAL Finals, securing the Indians’ inaugural trip to the PIAA tournament.

Beaver continued its strong postseason tradition by earning its first Class 3A title, adding to the program’s success after winning the Class 2A championship in 2023.

Avonworth reached the top of the mountain at last, claiming the school’s first WPIAL volleyball crown after finishing as runner-up in both 2011 and 2021.

Eden Christian capped its postseason run with a historic moment of its own, winning the first volleyball championship in school history.
 
CLASS 4A RECAP
Peters Township completed an exhilarating sweep over Pine-Richland (26-24, 25-21, 25-11) to claim the 2025 WPIAL Class 4A Girls’ Volleyball Championship. Peters Township had a .538 attack percentage in the third set and finished the night with nine total blocks, holding the Rams to a .037 clip in the third stanza.

Right side hitter Maddie Carroll powered the Peters Township attack with 12 kills on 19 attacks while Alex Knox totaled 11 kills and a team-high 18 assists. Elle Gorman was all over the court as she totaled six kills, four assists, two aces, and three block assists in the win.

For Pine-Richland, Isabelle Hoppe tallied nine kills and seven digs, while junior setter Piper Vogel dished out seven digs, seven kills, and one assist.
 
The Indians opened the WPIAL Championships with a 3-1 win over tenth-seeded Canon-McMillan, then qualified for the championship game with a 3-0 sweep against sixth-seeded North Catholic. Pine-Richland had a bit fo a different route to the finals as swept Greater Latrobe, Seneca Valley, and North Allegheny to make it to the title game.
 
CLASS 3A RECAP
Beaver swept Oakland Catholic (25-15, 27-25, 27-25) to capture the 2025 WPIAL Class 3A Girls’ Volleyball Championship at Peters Township High School. The Bobcats dominated the opening frame behind a .560 hitting percentage, then held off late rallies from the Eagles in the final two sets to secure the program’s first WPIAL title since 2020. Beaver finished the match with a .168 hitting mark while limiting Oakland Catholic to just .072 and collecting seven team blocks.

Senior outside hitter Kailyn Coonelly led Beaver’s balanced attack with 12 kills and seven digs, Kayden Bliss had six kills and a team-high 24 assists. Senior middle hitter Alaina Malobabich was a force at the net with a team-high three solo blocks along with six kills.

For Oakland Catholic, it was Josie Fontana who led the team with 12 kills on 33 attacks while also having nine digs. Ragan Mascaro was also a key player on the court as she had team-high 18 assists and 12 digs.

Beaver qualified for the WPIAL championship match with a 3-0 win against Ringgold in round one then defeated Chartiers Valley in straight sets to help set up a 3-1 semfijnals win over Mars. Oakland Catholic defeated 16th-seeded Gateway, 3-0 to start the postseason then swept South Fayette and Hampton to make it to AHN Arena.
 
Mars topped Hampton, 3-1, in the third-place consolation match to earn the final PIAA qualifier spot.
 
CLASS 2A RECAP
Avonworth swept Hopewell (25-20, 25-12, 25-21) to capture the 2025 WPIAL Class 2A Girls’ Volleyball Championship for the first time in school history. The Antelopes hit .355 in the third set to pull away, controlling play behind a consistent serve game and a balanced offensive attack.

Junior outside hitter Julia Cernich was a standout performer for the Antelopes as she led all players with 25 kills while also having 15 digs and two aces. Clementine Dutot-Lucs was a key contributor for Avonworth too as she recorded 17 kills, three aces, and a team-high 20 digs. Julianna Giest was a force on the back line as she led all players with six aces to go along with 13 digs and four assists.

For Hopewell, it was Lahna Murray who led the charge on offewnse as she finished the match with eight kills along with one block. Settert Bella Ceccarelli was all over the place defensively as she posted a team-high 12 digs along with 23 assists.

11-seeded Avonworth ran the table in the postseason and did it in thrilling fashion as they defeated their first three oponnents Riverside, Seton LaSalle, and Waynesburg Central all by a score of 3-2. Hopewell on the other hand had an easier time kaing it ot the finals as the Vikings swept McGuffey, Burrell, and OLSH en route to the championship.
 
Waynesburg Central upended OLSH in the third-place consolation game to claim their spot as a PIAA qualifier.
 
CLASS 1A RECAP
Eden Christian captured the 2025 WPIAL Class 1A Girls’ Volleyball Championship with a four-set victory over Serra Catholic (25-21, 15-25, 25-13, 25-19) at AHN Arena. The Warriors opened with a strong first frame before responding to a second-set setback by dominating the third and controlling the fourth to secure their second straight WPIAL crown. Eden Christian hit .258 in the second and .192 in the third set, finishing the night with a .150 team hitting percentage while matching Serra Catholic with seven total blocks.

Ava Arnold powered the Warriors with a match-high 14 kills on 38 total attacks while also compiling seven digs. Erin Hull was a major force on offense and defense as she had 11 kills to go along with nine digs and a team-high 19 assists and four block assists. Ainsley Chevalier was a key contributor as she finished the day with 17 assists and nine digs.

For Serra Catholic, they were guided on offense by Ryleigh Carper who led all players with 17 kills while also chipping in 11 digs. Niki Sfanos was also a highlight player for the Eagles as she finished with match with eight kills with a team-high 17 digs.

The Warriors defeated 13th-seeded Springdale 3-0 in the first round and followed that up by beating St. Joe’s and Frazier by identical 3-1 scores to book their ticket to the finals. Serra Catholic made their way to the finals by sweeping Apollo Ridge in round one before defeating Fort Cherry and California both in five-set thrillers to make it to the title game.
 
In the third-place consolation match, Frazier defeated California, 3-2, to earn the final PIAA qualifier spot.
