Peters Township, North Catholic Win Titles at 2025 WPIAL Girls' Golf Team Championships

Belle Vernon, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) hosted its first team championships of the 2025-26 academic year at the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls' Golf Team Championships on Thursday, Oct. 9 at Cedarbrook Gold Golf Course.

Peters Township claimed the Class 3A title for the fourth year in a row, marking the fifth team championship in school history. The last team to win four straight was North Allegheny, who accomplished that feat from 2015–2018.

For the Class 2A championship, it was the North Catholic girls' team who took the title in just their second year as a program.

CLASS 3A RECAP
Peters Township once again faced a tough challenge from Fox Chapel, similar to last year, but this time the match came down to a single stroke. The Indians edged the Foxes, 344–345, to win the championship. Senior Ellie Benson, the first golfer to go for Peters Township, posted the team's best score with a 71 (-1).

Fox Chapel, now runner-up for the second consecutive year, was led by junior Clara Koteski, who shot an 82 (+10). The Foxes had the most golfers shoot in the 80s of any team, with four total.
North Allegheny finished third with a 357 (+73), followed by Pine-Richland with a 364 (+80) to round out the top 3A teams.

Benson had the individual low score of the championship with a 71 (-1), followed by 3A individual champion Mya Morgan of Elizabeth Forward with a 74 (+2), and her teammate Betty Glyptis with an 80 (+8).
Peters Township will now look to win its third straight state title after defeating Manheim in the PIAA finals the past two years.

CLASS 2A RECAP
North Catholic made the biggest leap from last year, moving from third place to the top spot after finishing with a final score of 377 (+93). The Trojans were led by sophomore Riley Kontul, who finished with a score of 80 (+8).

The 2024 champion, Shady Side Academy, totaled a 383 (+99), led by WPIAL Girls' Golf 2A individual champion Alyssa Zhang, who shot the lowest round of the championship with a 71 (-1).
Greensburg Central Catholic followed with a 392 to place third, and Southmoreland rounded out the group with a total of 440.

Zhang recorded the classification's lowest round with a 71 (-1), followed by Kontul (80, +8), and Elizabeth Forward's Alayna Stawovy (82, +10) and Kennedy Kelly (84, +12).
This will be the first time North Catholic has qualified for the PIAA Girls' Golf Team Championships.
