WPIAL Establishes 2024 Girls’ Track & Field Team Championships Brackets

A total of 32 teams will compete to reach the championship meets on Tuesday, May 7

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) revealed its playoff brackets in two classifications for the 2024 WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Girls’ Track & Field Team Championships on Thursday afternoon, with the championship meets set for Tuesday, May 7 at West Mifflin High School in Class 3A and Confluence Financial Partners Stadium on the campus of Peters Township Middle School in Class 2A.
 
A total of 32 teams from Class 3A and Class 2A qualified for the WPIAL Girls’ Track & Field Team Championships. The semifinal meets will be held on Tuesday, April 30, with the top team from each advancing to the championship meet. Teams qualify for the postseason by finishing inside the top three of their respective sections following the regular season. Beaver qualified for the Class 2A tournament after finishing second in a Class 3A section.
 
In Class 3A, Norwin (5-0, 5-0) won Section I, Laurel Highlands (6-0, 6-0) took home Section III, North Allegheny (7-0, 6-0) reigned in Section III, and North Catholic (5-0, 5-0) emerged from Section IV. Franklin Regional (6-0, 6-0) topped Section V, Mt. Lebanon (5-0, 5-0) captured Section VI, South Fayette (6-0, 6-0) won Section VII, and Blackhawk (5-0, 5-0) is the Section VIII champion.
 
Class 2A saw Shenango (7-0, 7-0) win Section I, Hopewell (8-2, 7-0) earned the Section II title, Quaker Valley (9-0, 7-0) topped Section III, and Knoch (8-0, 7-0) emerged from Section IV. Fort Cherry (7-0, 7-0) won Section V, Waynesburg Central (7-0, 7-0) captured Section VI, Winchester Thurston (8-0, 8-0) reigned in Section VII, and Derry (7-0, 7-0) topped Section VIII.
 
The reigning WPIAL girls’ track & field team champions are Quaker Valley in Class 2A and North Allegheny in Class 3A. Quaker Valley defeated Winchester Thurston (92-57), Knoch (100-50), and Derry (100.5-49.5), while North Allegheny topped Norwin (87-63), Canon-McMillan (87-63), and South Fayette (107-43).
 
CLASS 3A CHAMPIONSHIPS

Amount of Qualifiers: 15
Qualifying Teams: Belle Vernon, Blackhawk, Butler, Canon-McMillan, Franklin Regional, Hempfield Area, Kiski Area, Laurel Highlands, Mt. Lebanon, North Allegheny, North Catholic, Norwin, Oakland Catholic, South Fayette, Upper St. Clair
2023 Final: North Allegheny def. Norwin (87-63), Canon-McMillan (87-63), South Fayette (107-43).
 
CLASS 2A CHAMPIONSHIPS
