The WPIAL/UPMC James Collins Scholarship Fund Golf Outing began in 2022 as an event to raise money for the WPIAL Scholarship Fund. The second annual outing was held on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon.

The WPIAL James Collins Scholarship Fund was created to award scholarships annually to student-athletes from schools and school districts comprising Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District VII. Since 1992, the league has given $739,000 in scholarships to its WPIAL/James Collins Scholar-Athlete Award recipients, and celebrates its 34th consecutive year of the award program in 2025.
