Three Repeat Champions; One New Winner; Two Teams Reclaim Titles at the WPIAL 2026 Boys' Basketball Championships

Upper St. Clair completes three-peat, The Neighborhood Academy and Chartiers Valley Each repeat as champions

The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) held its final championship games of the 2025-26 winter season this past Thursday through Saturday with the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Boys’ Basketball Championships.

Upper St. Clair (Class 6A) made history by winning its third consecutive WPIAL championship, becoming the first team in the highest classification to "three-peat" since the late 1990s. The Panthers now have six WPIAL titles overall (1996, 2005, 2021, 2024, 2025, and 2026).

The Neighborhood Academy (Class 1A) also repeated as champions, winning its second consecutive title after its first-ever win in 2025. Chartiers Valley (Class 5A) secured its second straight title as well, bringing its total to eight championships.

Knoch (Class 4A) ended its wait for a basketball championship by winning its first-ever WPIAL title, becoming the 115th different school to do so. Aliquippa (Class 3A) and Sewickley Academy (Class 2A) also emerged as champions in their respective divisions..
 
CLASS 6A RECAP
Top-seeded Upper St. Clair defeated second-seeded New Castle, 52-51, in the final game on Friday night to secure its third straight Class 6A title. The game featured multiple lead changes, but the Panthers held a one-point lead in the final seconds to finish the WPIAL season with a 24-1 record.

Upper St. Clair was led by senior forward Ryan Robbins, who recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Jake Foster contributed 12 points and four assists, while senior Julian Dahlem added nine points and five rebounds. The Panthers shot 44.0 percent from the field and 72.0 percent from the free-throw line.

New Castle was led by junior guard Jermaine Walker, who scored a game-high 18 points. Senior Damian Harrison added 10 points and six rebounds for the Hurricanes. New Castle reached the final by defeating Butler and Mt. Lebanon in the earlier rounds.
 
CLASS 5A RECAP
Top-seeded Chartiers Valley won its second consecutive Class 5A championship with a 63-37 victory over third-seeded Thomas Jefferson. The Colts took a double-digit lead in the second quarter and shot 58.0 percent from the field for the game.

Senior guard Jayden Davis led Chartiers Valley with 22 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Junior Julian Semplice added 14 points, and senior Julius Best contributed 10 points. Chartiers Valley held a 32-18 advantage in points in the paint and scored 15 points off turnovers.

Thomas Jefferson was paced by senior Kane Eggerton, who scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Jaguars reached the final after defeating Gateway and Moon in the previous rounds. Chartiers Valley advanced to the final by beating Shaler and Moon.
 
CLASS 4A RECAP
Third-seeded Knoch won its first-ever WPIAL boys' basketball title by defeating top-seeded Quaker Valley, 48-35. The Knights trailed by one point at halftime but outscored the Quakers 29-15 in the second half to secure the win.

Senior forward Tommy Davis led Knoch with 13 points and nine rebounds, while junior Liam Avon added 12 points and three steals. Senior Zane Pacek contributed eight points and four blocks defensively. Knoch shot 41.5 percent from the field and converted 12-of-15 free-throw attempts.

Quaker Valley was led by senior Joe Coyle, who scored 14 points. The Quakers reached the final with wins over Elizabeth Forward and Beaver. Knoch reached the championship game by defeating North Catholic and Avonworth.
 
CLASS 3A RECAP
First-seeded Aliquippa defeated eighth-seeded South Allegheny, 65-54, to claim the Class 3A championship. This win marks Aliquippa's 15th league-leading WPIAL title and their first since 2024.

The Quips were led by junior guard Joshua Pratt, who scored 21 points and had four steals. Fellow junior QaLil Goode added 15 points and six rebounds. Aliquippa shot 46.0 percent from the floor and held a 38-26 rebounding advantage over the Gladiators.

South Allegheny, the defending 2025 champion, was led by senior Drew Cook, who scored 18 points. Senior Josh Jackowski added 12 points and eight rebounds. Both teams have qualified for the PIAA tournament.
 
CLASS 2A RECAP
Second-seeded Sewickley Academy defeated top-seeded Jeannette, 52-38, to win the Class 2A title. The Panthers led for 26 of the 32 minutes played and held the Jayhawks to 30.0 percent shooting from the field.

Senior guard Lucas Grvi led Sewickley Academy with 16 points and five assists. Junior True Robinson added 12 points and nine rebounds. Jeannette was led by junior Jayce Powell, who scored 13 points, and senior Xavier Odorisio-Farrow, who grabbed 10 rebounds.

Sewickley Academy reached the final by defeating Fort Cherry and Neshannock. Jeannette advanced after wins over Burrell and Greensburg Central Catholic.
 
CLASS 1A RECAP
Top-seeded The Neighborhood Academy won its second consecutive Class 1A championship with a 60-48 victory over second-seeded Serra Catholic. The Bulldogs led by two points entering the fourth quarter before finishing the game on a 14-2 run.

Senior guard Courtney Wallace recorded a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Sophomore Kedron Gilmore added 24 points, including four three-pointers. Serra Catholic was led by senior Tyler Sapida, who scored 24 points in the loss.
