Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) established its seedings for the WPIAL Boys’ Wrestling Individual Championships on Monday afternoon. Both championship tournaments will be held on Feb. 21-22 – Class 2A will compete at Chartiers Valley High School and Class 3A will wrestle at Canon-McMillan High School. There are a total of 468 student-athletes – including 14 reigning champions across the two classifications – competing for the gold.
 
Last year’s returning Class 3A gold medalists include Butler junior Santino Sloboda, Connellsville senior Evan Petrovich, Greater Latrobe senior Luke Willochell, Kiski Area junior Cooper Roscosky, Peters Township sophomore Nicholas McGarrity, Ringgold senior Jake Conroy, and Thomas Jefferson seniors Bode Marlow, Maddox Shaw, and Shepherd Turk. Belle Vernon junior Elijah Brown also will compete at Class 3A after winning Class 2A gold at the 172 weight class. Indiana senior Nico Fanella was a 2023 gold medalist in Class 2A at 114.
 
The 2024 champions returning in the Class 2A field include Central Valley junior Antonio Boni and the Derry trio Brady Brown, Mason Horwat, and Anthony Mucci. Fort Cherry senior Braedon Welsh was victorious in 2023 at the 172 weight class.
 
Student-athletes qualified for the WPIAL Boys’ Wrestling Individual Championships by competing in their classification’s Eastern, Northern, and Southern Sectional tournaments, with the top six finishers in each weight class punching their tickets to this weekend’s championships.
 
The top seven wrestlers per weight class in Class 3A and top eight wrestlers per weight class in Class 2A will qualify for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Boys’ Wrestling Regionals. Class 3A will compete in the PIAA West Regional at Canon-McMillan High School, and Class 2A will wrestle at the PIAA Southwest Regional at Altoona High School, with both tournaments taking place on Feb. 28-March 1.
