Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) announced its brackets in Class 2A and Class 3A for the 2024 WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Boys’ Volleyball Championships on Friday afternoon, with the championship matches set for Thursday, May 23 at AHN Arena on the campus of Peters Township High School.
A total of 25 teams between the two classifications qualified for the WPIAL Boys’ Volleyball Championships, and the tournaments begin with first-round matches on Tuesday, May 14. Teams punched their tickets to the postseason by finishing inside the top four of their respective sections in both classifications following the regular season.
In Class 3A, Canon-McMillan (13-2, 10-0) won the Section I title, Shaler (13-1, 11-1) and North Allegheny (11-1, 11-1) split the Section II crown, and Norwin (15-1, 10-0) emerged as the Section III champion.
Class 2A saw co-champions in Section I between Ambridge (11-3, 11-1) and North Catholic (14-2, 11-1), Mars (17-0, 10-0) emerge as the Section II champion, and South Fayette (15-2, 11-1) capture Section III.
The top three teams in both classifications will advance to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Boys’ Volleyball Championships, which begin on Tuesday, June 4 and conclude with all championship games on Saturday, June 15 at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State University.
Shaler is the reigning Class 3A champion after defeating North Allegheny last season, 3-0. North Catholic topped Ambridge, 3-0, for the 2023 Class 2A crown.
