WPIAL Announces 2023 Baseball Championships Brackets

79 teams qualified for the chance to make the WPIAL championship games on May 30-31 at Wild Things Park

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) set its brackets for the WPIAL/UPMC Sports Medicine Baseball Championships presented by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday afternoon, with the six championship games set to be held on May 30-31 at Wild Things Park.

Teams qualify for the postseason by finishing in the top four of their sections. If ties cannot be broken for a qualifier spot, then every team within that tie will qualify for the postseason. Postseason competition begins on Tuesday, May 16 with a pair of pigtail games in the 3A classification.

In 6A, Pine-Richland (8-4) claimed the Section I title and Canon-McMillan (11-4) won the Section II crown. Bethel Park (9-1) and Shaler (9-1) were the respective champions of Section II and Section III in 5A, while Penn-Trafford (9-3) and Plum (9-3) shared the Section I plaque. The 4A classification featured two co-championships with Blackhawk (9-1) and Montour (9-1) in Section I and Chartiers Valley (9-1) and West Mifflin (9-1) in Section III, while Greater Latrobe (9-1) won Section II outright and North Catholic (8-2) topped Section IV.

All four section winners in 3A were outright champions with Riverside (12-0) winning Section I, Avonworth (9-1) taking Section II, East Allegheny (10-2) claiming Section III, and Yough (11-1) capturing Section IV. In 2A, Burgettstown (11-1) won Section I, Seton LaSalle (12-2) topped Section II, and Serra Catholic (11-1) reigning in Section III.
