Beginning his officiating career in 1979, Bob Osleger has spent 44 years as a baseball, softball, and volleyball official and enters the WPIAL Hall of Fame in 2023. The 35-year Ringgold School District teacher guided the school’s golf team for 28 years and basketball teams for a combined 30 years while embarking on an impressive officiating career. Osleger has worked 10 WPIAL Championship Games in softball, four in baseball, and umpired the 1988 PIAA Baseball and 2000 PIAA Softball Championships. He spent 35 years as an NCAA softball umpire and 10 years in NCAA baseball, working numerous NCAA Division I, II, and III conference championships and NCAA softball regionals. Osleger was bestowed with the Bill Christy Memorial Award for Excellence in Officiating in 2013, and is proud of the fact that he has only thrown out one-and-a-half coaches in 44 years as an umpire. He was a chapter rules interpreter for baseball and softball for over 30 years, and still serves as the softball rules co-interpreter for PIAA District VII and VIII, a basketball observer for the WPIAL and PIAA, and as a 20-year member of the WPIAL golf steering committee. Osleger’s favorite partner on and off the diamond is his wife of 42 years, Sue, and they work so well together because she is a 46-year official in the sports of basketball, softball, and volleyball. Once in a game, the public address announcer said that Osleger was “large and in charge” – an observation he has no problem with.
