A 1977 graduate of Valley, Greg Meisner won nine letters across four sports (football, track & field, basketball, wrestling) while setting the foundation for an All-American collegiate career and 11-year professional career. For Valley football, Meisner earned two All-Conference honors, the Foothills Conference Defensive Lineman MVP award, and one All-WPIAL and All-State nod. He was selected to play in the 1977 Big 33 Game and garnered scholastic and athletic achievement awards from the Westmoreland County Chapter of Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and the Golden Triangle YMCA of Pittsburgh. Meisner set school, several stadium, and Westmoreland County records in the javelin before attending the University of Pittsburgh to study psychology and play football. He was a three-year starter and four-year letterman at Pitt, garnering All-Big East Second Team, All-America Honorable Mention, and two Academic All-America honors over his career. The Panthers went 11-1 in back-to-back seasons, finishing No. 2 in the Associated Press and United Press International polls and No. 1 in the New York Times rankings in 1980. After graduating from Pitt in 1981, Meisner was selected in the third round (63rd overall) of the NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams and began an 11-year career spent between the Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Giants. His teams made the playoffs seven times and the Rams were NFC champions in 1985. After retirement, Meisner earned a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1995, and spent time as the athletic director and head football coach at Hempfield Area. He was named a Pitt Alumnus of Distinction in 2019, and is a member of the Alle-Kiski Valley Sports Hall of Fame and Western Chapter of Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
