A 2007 graduate of Rochester, Derek Moye helped lead the Rams to the 2004 WPIAL Class 1A football championship while also excelling in track and field and basketball. He captured PIAA Class 2A gold medals in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash in 2007 and earned Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 honors, First Team All-WPIAL and All-State recognition in football, and a selection to the Big 33 Football Classic. Moye also earned Pittsburgh Tribune-Review All-Star honors in basketball.  During his senior season in football, he ran for 1,205 yards on 158 carries and scored 20 touchdowns and caught 16 passes for 430 yards and five scores. He also had three touchdowns on returns and grabbed three interceptions, while making 64 tackles, as a senior. As a junior, he had 24 receptions for 536 yards and nine scores. He continued his football career at Penn State University from 2008–11, playing wide receiver and serving as a team captain as a senior. Moye finished his Nittany Lion career with 144 receptions for 2,395 yards and 18 touchdowns, ranking third in program history in receiving yards at the time and currently seventh all-time, while earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten recognition in 2010. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 2012 and later spent time with the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tennessee Titans. Moye is recognized as one of the greatest athletes in Rochester history and was most recently inducted into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame in 2025.
