A 1994 graduate of West Greene, Rodney Wilson excelled in multiple sports and helped lift the school’s teams to heights never before achieved. Wilson was a 12-time letterwinner across the football, wrestling, and track & field teams, and earned a pair of PIAA All-State nods in 1992 and 1993 for football. He was picked to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fab 22 in 1993 and was a Big 33 nominee. Wilson was twice selected as the Greene County Messenger Player of the Year, and in 1993 earned the Dapper Dan Class 1A Football Player of the Year award. He completed his high school football career as the WPIAL’s all-time leading rusher, compiling 6,304 rushing yards and 75 touchdowns, and was a part of the Pioneers’ run to the 1993 WPIAL Class 1A Championship Game - the program’s only appearance to date. On the mat, Wilson captured WPIAL individual gold in 1992 and 1993 at the 171-pound weight class, added a gold at the 1992 PIAA Southwest Regional, and posted a career wrestling mark of 106-25-1. He helped lead West Greene to team titles in WPIAL and PIAA competition, winning the 1993 PIAA Southwest Regional, and the 1994 WPIAL Class 2A crown with a 27-24 victory over Southmoreland. Wilson went on to play football collegiately at Slippery Rock University, where he was a four-year letterwinner and earned a pair of All-PSAC selections as a linebacker and defensive back. As a senior in 1997, he was a key contributor to Slippery Rock’s PSAC championship side that reached the NCAA Division II quarterfinals. Wilson currently works as the vice president of business development for CNX Resources, Inc., which is a natural gas company focused on sustainable energy production and specializing in low-carbon shale gas development.
