A 1999 graduate of East Allegheny, Brooke Stewart is one of the most prolific scorers in WPIAL girls’ basketball history. Stewart scored 3,055 career points with the Wildcats, serving as one of four WPIAL student-athletes to eclipse the 3,000-point mark in girls’ basketball. As a sophomore, she scored 56 points against Geibel Catholic, which is a WPIAL postseason record, and finished that season averaging a league-high 31.5 points per game. As a senior in 1999, Stewart led East Allegheny to the WPIAL Class 2A title and PIAA semifinals, which marks the school’s only championship in the sport. She captured numerous accolades in high school, including Pennsylvania Coaches Association Class 2A Player of the Year, USA Today Pennsylvania Honorable Mention Player of the Year, and Street & Smith High School All-America Honorable Mention plaudits, and her No. 5 jersey was retired at East Allegheny. Stewart went on to play collegiate at the University of Pittsburgh, serving as a three-year starter for the Panthers. She scored 1,114 points in 111 career games, which made her at the time the 11th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, and her 195 career made three-pointers remain a school record. Stewart graduated from Pitt with degrees in Psychology and Sociology and was inducted into the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Women’s Hall of Fame in 2022. She is now a Physical Education teacher in a grade K-8 school in New Mexico and owns and operates the youth sports organization, Be Elite Athlete, with her husband Kenneth Sanchez.
