A 2025 graduate of Hampton, Aiden Hanna has turned tragedy to triumph in his battle with osteosarcoma. Hanna was diagnosed with the disease in his left fibula in the summer of 2022, and over time it spread to his right knee in the fall of 2023, and returned to his left ankle in the summer of 2024. He had three total surgeries in both of his legs to combat the cancer and chemotherapy, and this past August, doctors amputated his leg just below the knee. Despite this, just two months after surgery, Hanna walked across the Hampton football field at Homecoming as the class’s homecoming king. He played baseball and golf during his time at Hampton, receiving the 2023 Most Positive Boys’ Golf Athlete in Western Pennsylvania from Positive Athlete, and returned to the baseball diamond for his senior season this spring. While dealing with his battle against cancer, Hanna had a passion to help others, leading him to start his own non-profit foundation called Aiden’s Helping Hands. The mission of the organization is to “shine a light for those who could use financial support while dealing with cancer” and to help “reduce the financial burden that comes with this diagnosis, so that families can find the strength and hope to win their battle”. Aiden’s Helping Hands holds events such as golf outings and slow-pitch softball tournaments to help raise money, and the organization has already provided over $200,000 to help families pay off medical expenses and other bills. As of May 2025, Hanna is now nine months cancer-free, which is the longest such period since his diagnosis three years ago.
