A 1961 graduate of Jeannette, Bob Trautwine has given over 50 years of service to WPIAL track & field in a variety of roles, including as an athlete, coach, and steering committee member. As a member of the Jeannette track & field team, Trautwine twice finished inside the top six at the Westmoreland County Meet in the 120-yard high hurdles, including a fourth-place effort as a senior. He then went on to compete for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania track & field team, and graduated in 1966. Trautwine began his coaching career as an assistant at Columbia High School near Lancaster before moving to East Allegheny, and accumulated a 110-56-1 record over 21 seasons leading the Wildcats. East Allegheny won nine conference titles under Trautwine’s watch and was victorious in 29 consecutive dual meets from 1973 through 1976. Five of his student-athletes took home gold at the WPIAL Track & Field Individual Championships, and 29 earned qualification into the PIAA Championships, where several won medals. Trautwine served as the East Allegheny athletic director from 1989 to 1999, and held roles on the WPIAL Board of Directors, as president of the WPIAL Athletic Directors Association, and as a WPIAL playoff game manager for football, soccer, basketball, and track & field. He was inducted into the East Boros Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, received the John & Michael Ferrante Memorial Award for promoting sports and student-athletes in 2004, and was honored with the Tri-State Track & Field Coaches’ Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Trautwine is in his 47th year on the WPIAL Track & Field Steering Committee, and he and his wife, Linda, have enjoyed 54 years of marriage thus far.
