Nolf finished his senior season at Kittanning ranked as the No. 1 wrestler in the nation at 145 pounds, capping off a historic high school resume that included a 176-1 career record, four WPIAL titles and three state championships. He later celebrated an All-American career at Penn State, reaching the NCAA Division I finals all four years and winning three national titles. In high school, Nolf became only the 13th WPIAL wrestler to finish his career with three PIAA titles. Nolf pinned 12 of the 13 postseason opponents he faced his senior year, and the other result was a 16-4 major decision. In the 145-pound state championship bout, Nolf pinned a previously undefeated opponent in less than two minutes to earn his third consecutive title, He was named the 2014 PIAA Class AA’s “Outstanding Wrestler” award, and FloWrestling ranked him No. 1 in the country among 145-pounders. He was the Tribune-Review Wrestler of the Year as a senior. Nolf started his championship resume by winning the 103-pound PIAA title as a freshman, and added the 132-pound title as a junior. His only high school loss came sophomore year in the PIAA semifinals to the eventual state champion, giving him a career winning percentage of 99.4. He was selected to represent Team Pennsylvania at the 2014 Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic and defeated a four-time state champion from Oregon in the 145-pound match. At Penn State, Nolf went 117-3 over four seasons and won three consecutive NCAA championships (2017, 2018, 2019) at 157 pounds. In the 2019 NCAA final, Nolf defeated Nebraska’s Tyler Berger, who also was the Oregon state champion he defeated at the Dapper Dan event five years earlier. Nolf was the NCAA runner-up in 2016, earning Freshman All-American honors. He was Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Year as a senior when he went 31-0 with 15 pins. Nolf broke Penn State’s record for career pins with 60.
